V-SLOT Wood planer - new version v. 1.11

TThis time we want to present you an updated version of the wood planner.
It is an improved version of its predecessor, which after the use of new components has gained even more rigidity.

In addition, we have also prepared a video for you, where you will learn step by step how to assemble such a device on your own.
The planner is entirely made of V-SLOT aluminium profiles and accessories available in our store, thanks to which the structure is stable, easy to build, and you can easily adjust it to your needs.

Later, in this article you will find a complete list of used components which descriptions of each individual one. Each section of the project will be described as well.

STEP 1: Introduction

Thanks to the use of an aluminium profile system, the unit can be modified, and its size can be adjusted to your needs.

The whole structure, with maintaining a reasonable size, is light and additionally to folding or unfolding you will need less than 3 minutes!
Therefore, the structure can be transported for example from the workshop to the construction site!

Although it is possible to use V-SLOT aluminium profiles with a length of 3 meters, we suggest a configuration where the X axis, so this on which the spindle trolley moves has a maximum length of 2000 mm.

The dimension of approx. 1500 mm is the optimal solution, because this configuration allows easy transport and is handy for work (the movement of the axes over 1500 mm, guided by hands may be difficult or even impossible).

The Y axis, so this, which is also the base of the device, should be set on a stable, rigid, and simple structure (it can be a concrete floor or table). Thanks to this, the axis will be very stiff since used profile is supported by the rigid base, which, if is stable, will prevent any deflection of the profile.

Step 2: List of components to build "Spindle carriage"

The internal dimensions of the trolley are approximately 290 x 300 m. In most cases, this is a sufficient dimension to install the spindle.

Step 3: X axis BOM and general description:

To build the X axis, you will need 2 V-SLOT 2080 aluminium profiles. The length of that profiles, as we wrote above, optimally is 1500-2000mm (which does not mean that you cannot build using shorter or longer profiles). You will also need 2 pcs. V-SLOT 2040 profiles with a length of 350 mm, to connect long profiles 2080. Additionally, also mounting accessories (full list below).

To make the X axis movement along the Y axis possible, 2080 V-SLOT profiles will be needed (this is further in the description) and 4 small 20mm Option Gantry Plates, which should be installed on the ends of the 2080 V-SLOT profile's which are forming the X axis.
