Linear guide made of V-Slot profiles
V-Slot profiles are used in many industries. The special design of V-Slot profiles allows for linear movement of the table equipped with V-Wheel castors. Depending on the model of the caster, this solution can be ideal for the construction of a simple slider, e. g. For photographic suite, building a 3D printer, CNC milling machine and many other machines.
How to build a basic linear guide from V-Slot profiles?
The V-Slot aluminium profile allows us to create many different designs. The use of OpenBuilds mounting plates allows you to create a component where the drive can be placed in different positions.
Below we will show you some examples of a linear guide made from OpenBuilds accessories.
Linear guide made of V-Slot 2040 profiles with timing belt. We can assume that this is the basic design of the linear guide.
We'll need to build it:
- Idler Puley Plate
- Aluminium Profile 2040 ( 20x40 ) of any lenght
- Idler Pulley Kit
- Motor Mount Plate for NEMA 17
- Stepper Motors with Timing Pulley
- Gantry Plate 20mm
- Timing Belt
- Eccentric Spacers ( 2-4 pcs )
- Solid V-wheel Kit ( 4 pcs )
- T-nuts
- Belt Clamp ( min. 2 pcs )
- Screws
- Imbus
- Screw driver
The elements listed above will allow us to build a simple 1 meter long linear guide is a cost of 280-320 PLN gross. This is a ready-made component that can successfully be one of the axes in a 3D printer design!
