Sphinx 55 Openbuilds hobby milling machine
The basic set includes all the structural parts needed to assemble the Sphinx 55 structure.
Interested persons can enrich the system by selecting additional options visible next to the product price.
You can expand the basic set choosing the following options:
- NEMA 23 stepper motors
- Control electronics
- You can order a composite set
Basic technical description:
- Working area: X = ~ 333 mm / Y = ~ 325 mm / Z = ~ 85mm
- Maximum thickness of the processed material: ~ 57mm
- Drive: Screw
- Device accuracy: 0.05 - ~ 0.1mm
- Total dimensions: 500x500mm
Applications:
The device is ideal for every hobbyist and semi-professional work. The OpenBuilds Sphinx CNC milling machine enables the processing of such materials as:
- Soft / hard wood
- Plastics
- Aluminum
- Foams
- and other
MDF board is not included in the set. The recommended board size is 19mm x 500mm x 410mm
The Sphinx 1050 model is also available in sizes in which the working area is:
- X = ~833 mm
- Y = ~325 mm
- Z = ~85 mm
The set which includes all the elements needed to build the structure contain:

The set does not include NEMA 23 motors, Control board, Spindles, Limit switches, power supply and MDF board.
ADDITIONAL ACCESSORIES (to be chosen at the price):

The kit includes:
- Cable guides
- 10mm thick MDF board
- Sensor for positioning the Z axis in relation to the material
- Limit switches for the axis: 1 pc for the Z axis, 1 pc for the X axis, 1 pc for the Y axis.
- Connecting cables
- USB cable for connecting the control board to the computer
- Safety switch
- Groove plugs for profiles to hide cables in the structure
Control and software:
To control the unit, we recommend the xPRO v4 CNC controller dedicated by the manufacturer, available in our store. The driver ensures stable operation, quick installation and is compatible with free OpenBuilds software!

DEWALT D26200 SPINDLE OR ROUTER 11 OR NO SPINDLE
The milling machine can be purchased together with a DeWalt D26200 spindle or a RoutER11 spindle, which allows you to work in many varied materials.
The DeWalt D26200 is supplied with a sleeve that allows the installation of 8mm shank cutters, and for an additional fee you can buy 3.175mm or 6mm sleeves. DeWalt will allow you to regulate the speed in the range from 16,000 to 27,000 rpm.
RoutER11 is a spindle dedicated by OpenBuilds USA, which offers reasonable parameters for an optimal price. The great advantage of the spindle is a set of sleeves that allows the assembly of cutters with a diameter of 3.175, 3mm, 6mm and 6.35mm!
People who have their own spindle can purchase a LEAD CNC 75 milling machine without a spindle. LEAD 75 is equipped with a handle enabling the assembly of a spindle with a diameter of approx. 70 mm. However, if you require a handle of a different diameter, please contact us.
