Probably, as the first company in Poland, we are trilling to present the latest CNC controller from the manufacturer OpenBuilds USA - BLACK BOX!

Certainly, on our website, very soon there will be more entries about this unit and today we want to describe to you in a few sentences what the Black Box driver is.

Black Box - The future of CNC milling machines for amateurs and professional users.

Some of the people have probably already got to know to the xPRO v4 CNC controller recommended by us, which has been with us already for a long time.

OpenBuilds and its devices provide electronics and user-friendly software. OpenBuilds Control software allows us to easily operate CNC devices thanks to communication with controllers based on soft GRBL. This is also in the case with xPRO v4 CNC control boards and Black Box electronics. Black Box in conjunction with the OpenBuilds Control software allows us to work with CNC milling machines, lasers, plasma, and other CNC devices.

From the beginning - what is included in the BLACK BOX CNC OpenBuilds set

By purchasing the BlackBox Openbuilds driver, the user receives a complete kit which have to assembly on your own. This activity, however, does not require specialized knowledge or specialized tools. After unpacking the package, we will receive:

• Two electronic boards that should be connected with each other at the appropriate stage of assembly. It does not require any tools - just insert the GOLD PIN connectors into the appropriate socket.
• Electronics housing consisting of six parts. To screw the housing together, we only need an Allen key (included in the set) and a screwdriver.
• 60mm fan to be installed on the housing with the included screws
• ON / OF button installed on one of the electronic boards
• Screw connectors for connecting all wires
• Heatsinks taped installed in the right place on the electronic board
• USB cable

What does the BlackBox driver offer and what makes it user-friendly?

The manufacturer made sure that the connection of the PCB is simple and pleasant.

In addition to the sensational prepared set, which includes all the screws we need, hex keys, etc., it is worth to paying attention to the screw connections to which we can easily install the wires with regular flat screwdriver.

And the connectors fixed on the BlackBox board offer us a lot! - we will write about them in the separate article, but now, in the meantime here is a short list:

• 4 sockets for connecting stepper motors X / Y / Y2 / Z (Y2 axis can copy the movements of any axis) Stepper motor drivers are prepared to support NEMA motors with a current consumption of up to 3.2A (max. 4A)
• 3 sockets for connecting mechanical and inductive limit switches (Z / Y / X).
• Connector for connecting the Z axis probe
  
  
  

On the second, longer side, you will find among the others:

• Easily accessible potentiometers for adjusting the motor current
• Power switch
• Reset button

Another of the shorter sides offers us even more connectors:

• Board power connector (24v power supply recommended)
• Input fuse 10A
• Connector for a relay for general use (you can connect to it, for example, a plasma trigger, coolant pump or spindle control)
• Door lock signal connector - a sensor connected to this connector will, for example, cause the device to stop working when the enclosure door is open
• USB connector
• AUX1 connector
• A connector that allows, among others, to control a 5V PWM spindle!

The board is operated by an 8-bit Atmega328p microcontroller. The system installed on the board is the proven Grbl 1.1.

Black Box CNC OpenBuilds board control

To operate the device to which the Black Box CNC controller is connected, the manufacturer dedicates the OpenBuilds Control software. OpenBuilds Control is free software ready to download and is very easy to use.

Thanks to this software, we can control the X / Y / Z axes and their movement, configure parameters related to the operation of motors, increase, or decrease the speed of the device when is needed, modify G-CODE and many more. Just upload the prepared G-CODE to the OpenBuilds Control software and then you can start the device operation!

As for the board itself, we believe that it is a very interesting alternative to other CNC controllers based on Grbl. BlackBox offers to the user many very useful connectors that allow you to control CNC devices and connect additional accessories such as, for example, casing opening sensor or plasma connection.
